Major Jeremiah Dewson, the grandfather of A. F. R. Dewson, of Windsor, was born in England, and for many years was a member of the Seventy-fifth Regiment in the regular army, winning commendation and rank.
In his native land Jeremiah Dewson married Elizabeth Kenzie, also of English birth, and after his retirement from the service with his wife he decided to make his permanent home in Ontario, the surroundings being familiar to him on account of the army movements prior to that time.
Jeremiah located near Bradford and turning his sword into a pruning hook engaged in farming during the rest of his life. Jeremiah Dewson’s children were:
• Alfred K. Dewson, was the father of A. F. R.,
* Ann Dewson was the wife of Col. Dennison, of Toronto, where she died in 1900,
• George Dewson located in Fernandina, Florida, in the practice of law, and during the Civil war, in the States, served in the Confederate army, he later died at Fernandina,
• Charles Dewson served in the Rebellion of 1837, later went to the States, and died in New Orleans,
• Julius Dewson was a farmer on the old Ontario homestead,
• Thomas Dewson was long the manager of the Standard Bank and died in Toronto,
• Marcella Dewson is the widow of Rev. Mr. Gibson, of Toronto,
• Adelaide Dewson, who was born on the Plains of Abraham, Quebec, married John Wilson, of Barry.

Narrative
Jeremiah Wilkes Dewson (1792- 1852), son of Benjamin and Sarah Dewson, married Elizabeth Kinsey in 1811, and was an officer in the British army. He served in Europe under the Duke of Ellington (including the battle at Waterloo in 1815), and was then shipped to service in Ontario in Canada. He and his family later returned and settled at Bond Head, Ontario. George Alfred Denison (1822/1823-1873), a son of Jeremiah Wilkes Dewson, immigrated to Florida and married Amanda Rosalie MacDonell in 1852. He served with Florida troops in the Confederate Army, and was the grandfather of Mary Susan Dewson. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and elsewhere. Ancestors and relatives lived in Virginia, Florida, Ontario, England and elsewhere back to about 1542 A.D.
