Narrative

Charles Fredrick Alexander Thiele was a clerk at the Royal Naval Hospital in Bermuda, and married to Elizabeth Thiele. They had 14 children.[1]*

The Royal Naval Hospital, Bermuda (1818), closed in 1957, and was demolished in 1972 (except the zymotic (isolation) block of 1899, which is now an old people's home). In 1976, the world's biggest underwater set, containing a submerged shipwreck sound stage, was built at the site of the demolished main building while filming the movie The Deep.[2]

"The Late Charles F. A. Thiele", Bermuda Royal Gazette, March 13, 1894, page 2:

Mr. Thiele, whose death we record in to-day's issue, was widely and favourably known to many. The late Donald McPhee Lee, Queen's Printer, etc, held Mr. Thiele in high esteem, and their relations were always of the most cordial character. Mr. Thiele held an important appointment at the Dockyard for a number of years. On the abolition of his office he received a compensation allowance and retired on a pension, settling in the town of Hamilton with his family. Mr. Thiele, in 1853, was associated with the late Rev. W. C. Dowding in the management of St. Paul's College, which was opened in Hamilton by way of reviving Bishop Berkeley's education scheme... Mr. Thiele was in the habit of taking daily long walks, and his familiar face will be missed from the public highways which he so much frequented. Hamilton encounters a loss in a man like Mr. Thiele of a venerable age and of a widely valuable experience.[3]
