Biography
Francis was born in summer 1871, the fourth son and seventh child of George Bellamy and Eliza Thiele.

Francis' father, an assistant surgeon with the Royal Navy, had been posted to Esquimalt in 1866. Father George returned to England just prior to Francis' birth (see notes), and passed away in 1875. The 1881 Canada census also included half-brother Edward in the family.[1]

More children were ostensibly added to the family, and although listed with surname Bellamy, could not have been full-siblings to Francis.[2]

At age 37 in summer 1908, Francis married 35-year-old Susannah, who had been living in the Bellamy household since at latest 1901,[3] and had married Francis' eldest brother George William sixteen years prior.[4]

Francis Carl Bellamy passed away in autumn 1960:[5]

In Victoria, B.C., on November 1, 1960, Francis Carl Bellamy, aged 89 years, the last and youngest member of the family of the late Dr. George [.] Bellamy; a native son of Victoria, B.C., and citizen practically all his life, except for one year's absence in U.S.A. He leaves to mourn his loss two half-sisters, Mrs. Ethel Tomkins in Victoria and Mrs. Irene Colins of Portland, Ore.; also numerous relatives and friends.[6]

Research Notes
Francis was born when British Columbia was in its final days as a distinct colony, just seven days prior to officially joining Canada.

It appears rather unlikely that Francis ever met his father, who was reported to have "returned to England a few months [prior to August 1871], from the Royal Naval Hospital at Vancouver's Island". According to the transcripts at the BC archives, Francis was born and baptized at Esquimalt in July and October, 1871, respectively.

It appears likely that Francis' marriage to Susannah was unlawful, since at their marriage she was listed under alias Cicily and as a widow, rather than a divorcee, while her first husband was living in the United States.
