Ethel and Edward had four children (Irene, Ethel, James (Van), Edward (Ted)) before he died from Tuberculosis in 1916. She remarried a Mr. William Nicholas Thompkins who owned the Portland Hotel, which was located at 723 Yates Street in Victoria, B.C. Ethel and William Tompkins had no children.
